Beta Briefing
Nexon confirmed all characters and progress are deleted after COT #2. The only things that carry to launch are the Classic Beginnings rings:
- PERMANENT Label Ring โ reach Lv 10 and complete [Event] A Strange and Familiar Wood
- PERMANENT Chat Ring โ reach Lv 15 and complete [Event] Beyond the Unknown
What this game is
Classic World is Nexon's official pre-Big Bang revival โ "a timeline where the Big Bang never happened" โ with quality-of-life changes. Four Explorer classes only (no Pirates), job advancements at Lv 10 / 30 / 70, original slow EXP curve, Free Market instead of Auction House, death still costs EXP.
New in COT #2
- NEW 3rd Job Advancement (Cleric โ Priest at 70) โ the Lv 50 cap from test #1 is gone
- NEW Ossyria: Orbis & El Nath โ El Nath means Coolie Zombies, the iconic cleric camp
- Kerning City Party Quest, Forgotten Hollow (new original zone, Lv 39โ59, boss at 60)
- Controller support, macOS support, multiple languages, more GM events
- Per the official announcements channel (May 2026), this may be the final closed test before open beta โ treat it as your last dress rehearsal
โ ๏ธ All build advice on this page is grounded in beta-1 data and the community datamine โ the community's own rule is "don't trust old guides." Skim the official patch notes on Aug 4 and sanity-check the Skills section against them.
Good to know
- Magicians were 39% of all characters in test #1 โ the strongest early class. Expect crowded mage maps; channel-hop freely.
- Mage-relevant QoL in this build: magic attacks cannot miss, base ~5% crit for everyone, HP washing removed, Holy Arrow buffed to 3 damage lines.
- Runs on Nexon Launcher (selected players are emailed โ no keys). Performance may dip outside North America.
- Test #1 had an emergency maintenance on day 2 โ expect some downtime and mid-test patches. Nexon permabans account sharing.
- Realistic 8-day ceiling: casual (2โ3 h/day) โ Lv 30โ38 ยท hardcore โ Lv 45โ55+. 3rd job at 70 is a stretch goal, not a plan.
Character Creation & AP Build
The rule
Every level: 4 points INT, 1 point LUK. Never touch STR or DEX.
Beta-1 testers settled this: LUKless is strictly worse than 4/1 โ going full INT is "just less damage" in this game's formula, with only a brief niche window around Lv 40. Gear requirements are also lighter than the classic "level + 3" rule: the first LUK wand (Lv 20) needs only 10 LUK, so 1 LUK per level keeps you comfortably ahead of every wand requirement. Testers' phrasing: keep just enough LUK for your next wand โ 4/1 does that automatically.
Levels 1โ10 (Maple Island)
- Do the beginner quests โ they carry you to 10 in roughly 2โ3 hours in this build.
- All AP into INT (plus the 1/level LUK). Kill snails and shrooms with whatever's in hand.
- Don't linger on the island โ a magician's real progression starts at the job advance.
- Grab the [Event] ring quests the moment they're available.
SP Build Tables
๐ฎ Magician skill order at a glance (Lv 10โ30) โ COT-verified meta
โจ Cleric skill order at a glance (Lv 30โ70) โ beta-1 tester meta
Orange-bordered steps are the make-or-break ones. Skip entirely: Magic Claw โ yes, really; see the contrast box below.
Magician (Lv 10โ30) โ 61 SP
- Energy Bolt beats Magic Claw โ until ~Lv 28. The datamined damage formula is roughly (skill base attack + total magic) ร number of lines, so multi-hit skills scale harder as your magic grows: Claw (2 lines) overtakes EB around 28, and Holy Arrow (3 lines) was top mage DPS in beta 1. For 10โ30 EB is still the cheap, correct pick (better damage-per-MP when it matters), and you respec at 2nd job anyway.
- The Max MP timing trap is gone. Both MP passives are reworked to percentages (MaxMP +25%, regen 1%/10s), so nothing is permanently lost by taking them late. Max MP Increase needs only MP Recovery 3 to unlock.
- Magic Guard's master level is 15, not 20 โ and low ranks suffice. Rank 3 (~36% redirect) prevents one-shots at this stage; maxing it is meso-negative since HP pots are cheaper than MP pots. Toggle it off outside boss fights (King Slime / KPQ boss stage).
- SP resets exist after 2nd job โ so nothing here is permanent. Post-advance, respec out of Energy Bolt into Magic Guard 11โ15 + Magic Armor once your 2nd-job spell out-grinds EB.
| Level | Put points in | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 10โ13 | EB has damage spikes at ranks 8, 12, 16, 18, 20 โ rank 8 is the early sweet spot. 1 point of MP Recovery is huge value. | |
| 14โ18 | Percent-based regen + boosted pot recovery = meso efficiency, the real bottleneck in a fresh economy. | |
| 18โ23 | Ride the rank 12/16/18/20 damage spikes โ fewer casts per kill = less MP per kill. | |
| 20โ23 | ~36% damage redirect โ enough survivability for KPQ/King Slime. Don't max; it burns expensive MP. | |
| 24โ30 | +25% MaxMP; leftovers into Magic Armor (real weapon defense now that Magic Guard stays low). |
At 30 you'll have roughly: MP Recovery 15/15 ยท Max MP 15/15 ยท Energy Bolt 20/20 ยท Magic Guard 3/15 ยท Magic Armor ~8/20 ยท Magic Claw 0/20. If mesos somehow aren't tight (funded by a friend), you can flip the order โ attack skills and Magic Guard first, MP skills last.
Cleric (Lv 30โ70) โ 121 SP
| Level | Put points in | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 30 | One point = free HP sustain between fights. More ranks are a luxury, not a farming tool. | |
| 30โ40 | Your actual attack skill, per beta-1 tester consensus ("max Holy Arrow first"). 3 lines, strong vs undead and the new dark-attribute mobs, cheap MP-per-damage. | |
| 40โ47 | Rank 1 costs a painful 55 MP โ testers advise against sitting at 1. Push it (55 โ 15 MP) once your damage is online. | |
| 47โ54 | +20 accuracy/avoid and +10% HP recovery for the party โ accuracy is a real pain point for other classes in this build, so Bless makes you the party pick. | |
| 54โ61 | โ30% physical damage plus a +30 basic attack rider while active. | |
| 61โ70 | Testers: don't max MP Eater early โ it has a once-per-5s cooldown now, so it's a late filler, not an engine. Spare points into Heal for bigger top-ups. |
Leveling Roadmap
EXP/hr figures are community-measured from test #1 (meowdb) โ treat as relative guides, not gospel. โฉ = undead (takes bonus holy damage from Holy Arrow โ and most of the remake's new mobs are dark-attribute, which holy also punishes). Sprites & minimaps are authentic GMS v62 data.
| Level | Where | What | ~EXP/hr | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1โ10 | Maple Island | โ | ~2โ3 h to Lv 10. Do the Lv 10 [Event] ring quest. | |
| 10โ15 | Ellinia tree dungeons / Pig Beach / Kerning construction site | 300โ600k | Energy Bolt rank 8 spike comes online. Lv 15 [Event] ring quest. | |
| 15โ21 | Kerning Subway Line 1 / Dangerous Steam | ~640k | Stirges knock you around but pay well. Green Mushrooms (Tree Dungeon) as alternate. | |
| 21โ30 | Kerning City Party Quest | Best in bracket | Leader calls a track in chat ("j> KPQ track 3"). Channels 1โ4 busiest; hop if the lobby's dead. Solo alt: Ant Tunnel IโIII (~1.5M/hr). | |
| 30โ36 | Ant Tunnel (Sleepywood) | ~1.5M | Fresh Cleric โ Energy Bolt until Holy Arrow has ranks, then HA melts these undead. | |
| 33โ45 | Kerning Subway Line 2 Area 1 / Monkey Swamp III | ~2.3M | Holy Arrow heaven โ undead take bonus holy damage. Best non-PQ EXP of the mid-game. | |
| 39+ | NEW Forgotten Hollow | 10 new monsters, exclusive questlines | ~1.3M+ | The beta-original zone (Lv 39โ59, Rotten Mushmom boss at 60). Slightly worse EXP than Wraiths but the content Nexon most wants tested โ do the questline at least once. (No sprites โ it doesn't exist in classic data!) |
| 46โ55 | Kerning Subway Line 2 Area 2โ3 | ~3.7M | The measured EXP ceiling of test #1. Camp here whenever you're not exploring. | |
| 55+ | NEW El Nath โ Dead Mine | ? | The iconic pre-BB cleric camp, newly opened in COT #2. Holy Arrow + Heal-1 sustain; bring Invincible. Explore Orbis on the way. |
Field Notes โ Day-of Walkthroughs
๐ Job advancements (don't get lost on the big days)
top of Ellinia
forest north of Ellinia
Lv 10 โ Magician: Classic World advances you at Lv 10 with no stat requirement โ community reports say you can advance in your starting town; classically it's Grendel the Really Old at the top of the Magic Library in Ellinia. Either way: hit 10, look for the job NPC, take Energy Bolt first.
Lv 30 โ Cleric (the classic blueprint): talk to Grendel โ he hands you a letter for the Mage Job Instructor north of Ellinia โ the instructor opens a test portal โ inside, kill Curse Eyes / Horned Mushrooms until you've collected 30 Dark Marbles โ receive the Proof of a Hero โ return to Grendel โ choose Cleric (not Wizard!). Bring pots: the test room mobs hit level-30-you harder than your grind mobs. โ ๏ธ The remake may streamline this โ but if there's a test, this is its shape.
Lv 70 โ Priest: classically an El Nath quest chain (chief NPC, a fight vs your own clone, a quiz). Out of reach this beta โ if you're somehow here, you don't need this site anymore.
๐บ๏ธ Getting around (no fast travel, remember?)
| Destination | How | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sleepywood (Ant Tunnel, Sauna) | South through the dungeon entrance mid-Victoria; or the taxi if the remake kept it | Your Lv 21โ36 home. The VIP Sauna (for the robe quest) is inside town. |
| Orbis | Boat from Ellinia Station (top of the forest) | Classic boats run on a schedule with a multi-minute ride โ check departure times at the station. โ ๏ธ Classically, Crimson Balrogs board the boat mid-flight and one-shot low-levels: stay in the cabin if the remake kept them. |
| El Nath (Dead Mine) | From Orbis, descend Orbis Tower (~20 floors) to the base | The descent is a jump-quest-lite; falling costs time, not EXP. Dead Mine is past town, through the snowfields. |
| Back to Victoria | Boat from Orbis Station | Or a Return Scroll if you're just done for the day โ log out where tomorrow starts. |
๐จ Crafting (the thing Nexon actually wants tested)
Six professions, 342 recipes, added in this remake โ and almost no community data on which profession suits a mage. That makes it a feedback goldmine: pick one that sounds gear-relevant (smithing/accessory-type), craft while resting MP, and write down what feels clunky โ crafting feedback was among the most-praised community input from test #1. Budget an hour for it mid-beta (it's on your checklist), not day 1.
Time Planner โ How Long to Get Where
Quick table โ hours per bracket (solo / partied)
| Bracket | Where you'll be | EXP needed | Hours solo | Hours in party | Running total (party) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1โ10 | Maple Island quests | 5k | ~2.5 | ~2.5 | 2.5 |
| 10โ15 | Slimes / Pig Beach | 22k | ~3 | ~2 | 4.5 |
| 15โ21 | Subway Line 1 / Dangerous Steam | 95k | ~5 | ~3 | 7.5 |
| 21โ30 | KPQ + Ant Tunnel | 522k | ~12 | ~7 | 14.5 |
| 30โ35 | Zombie Mushrooms โ Jr. Wraiths | 700k | ~10 | ~6 | 20.5 |
| 35โ40 | Jr. Wraiths / Zombie Lupins / Hollow @ 39 | 1.21M | ~13.5 | ~8.5 | 29 |
| 40โ45 | Forgotten Hollow / Monkey Swamp III | 1.97M | ~17 | ~10.5 | 39.5 |
| 45โ50 | Wraiths (Subway Line 2) | 2.33M | ~16.5 | ~10.5 | 50 |
| 50โ55 | Wraiths / El Nath | ~4.3M | ~27 | ~17 | 67 |
| 55โ70 | Coolie Zombies (Dead Mine) | ~30M+ | ~170+ | ~105+ | โ |
Read: the whole 1โ30 story costs a partied player ~15 hours (2 relaxed days); 50 costs ~50 partied hours (the full beta at 6+ h/day); 3rd job at 70 is mathematically out of reach (~100+ more hours past 55) โ it exists in this test for the no-lifers duoing 18 h/day, not as a personal goal. Levels 50+ use an extrapolated EXP curve (+9.5%/level).

Party Quests โ What You Actually Need to Learn
โก KPQ quick reminder (keep this open while playing)
KPQ landlady
Entry: Lv 21โ30 ยท party of 4 ยท Lakelis, top of the Kerning City tower ยท ~30 min limit
- Stage 1 โ Coupons: everyone kills Ligators and turns in coupons; leader clears the stage via the NPC.
- Stage 2 โ Ropes: 3 members hang on ropes, leader checks the NPC after each arrangement. Call positions in party chat, change ONE person at a time.
- Stage 3 โ Platforms: same idea standing on numbered platforms. Use the standard call order below โ never guess randomly.
- Stage 4 โ King Slime: burst it down (community guide: ~35k HP in the remake), it summons slime adds. Magic Guard ON here, OFF after.
- Bonus: break boxes / grab drops until the timer boots you. Exit is Kerning โ restock and re-queue.
The sacred combination order (5-choose-3, works for any combo stage โ call it in party chat and tick through):
123 ยท 124 ยท 125 ยท 134 ยท 135 ยท 145 ยท 234 ยท 235 ยท 245 ยท 345
For a 4-rope stage: 123 ยท 124 ยท 134 ยท 234. The leader is the only one who talks to the NPC โ everyone else holds position until called.
Lobby lingo: "track" = the channel-hopping queue for who enters next. "j> KPQ track 3 need 2" = join us, we're third in line on this channel, 2 slots open. Full channels move fast; dead lobbies mean hop channels. Add every good partymate to your buddy list โ that's your grind network for the rest of the beta.
โ ๏ธ This is the classic blueprint โ the remake has tweaks (stage order/counts may differ). The transferable skills are the combo call order, one-leader-talks rule, and track etiquette. Watch Nexon's own KPQ recap video to see the remake version in motion.
โ PQ questions nobody wants to ask out loud
Why that combo order? The puzzle answer is a hidden random pick of 3 positions out of 5 โ zero hints, pure brute force. 5-choose-3 = exactly 10 combinations, and the call order is just all 10 listed so you never repeat or skip one. Average ~5 NPC checks, worst case 10. Random guessing is how a 2-minute stage becomes a 10-minute stage.
Why tracks? Only ONE party can be inside KPQ per channel. The "track" is the player-run queue outside the NPC: track 1 is inside/next, track 2 after them, etc. When a run ends, everyone knows whose turn it is โ no click-wars, no entry-stealing (the classic community's unforgivable sin). Each channel has its own track, so hopping channels can mean walking straight in.
We tried all 10 combos and none worked? You didn't โ someone was standing half-off a platform or two people swapped numbers. Re-assign positions out loud (1 through 5, left to right), redo the list slowly. It's always this.
Someone left / leader disconnected mid-run? The run is usually dead โ party members leaving breaks the quest. Exit, reform, rejoin the track. This is why you invite people from your buddy list first: fewer quitters.
Do I outgrow it? Hard cap at Lv 30 โ you can't enter after. Squeeze runs at 29, then job-advance and move on. Don't be the person who delays 30 "for one more run"; Ant Tunnel pays better by then anyway.
Do I need to talk much? Minimal typing: numbers ("124"), "go", "next", "gg". If you can call three digits, you're fluent. Being the leader is more work (you do all NPC clicks) but lets you set the pace โ good role for a cleric everyone wants to keep around.
What drops? Completion EXP (the real prize) plus a bonus stage of boxes: scrolls, potions, the occasional equip. In a wipe beta, grab everything and share generously โ buddy-list capital beats mesos.
Can I leech / AFK a slot? No โ the remake has an anti-AFK timer (~10s without fighting = no party EXP), and puzzle stages need warm bodies on ropes anyway. Everyone works in KPQ.
๐ง Classic habits a modern Mapler must relearn
- Death costs EXP โ near a level-up, play like you're carrying glass. No safety charms here.
- No fast travel โ no hyper teleport rocks, no world-map warping. Boats have departure schedules; return scrolls are precious hotbar items.
- Party invites are social โ no party finder. You type, you ask, you get invited because you're a cleric with Bless. Being pleasant is a gameplay mechanic.
- Potions are manual and finite โ no auto-pot. Bind them (see Loadout) and buy stacks before leaving town.
- Free Market, not Auction House โ pricing is word-of-mouth; in a beta, trade generously, hoard nothing.
Gear & Quests
Weapons โ wands beat staves at every tier
Exact v62 wand progression (icons are the real sprites):
Other slots
Esther Shield (Lv 33) โ spotted in a trailer, but its drop source is an open question (it was gachapon-only originally, and Ludibrium is absent). Also per testers: INT shield scrolls don't exist, so a shield is stats-as-dropped.
- NEW Crit gear system (not in the original game): all gloves roll crit rate and crit-rate scrolls exist at every tier; earrings carry crit damage with matching scrolls. Testers say current crit values are too weak to chase โ know it exists, don't invest yet.
Overalls > top/bottom for INT scrolling (more slots, better rolls). Wizard Robe at 28; Sauna Robe from the quest below.
- Squishy Shoes (Lv 28) โ no requirements, +1 all stats (Classic World item โ not in v62 data, so no sprite).
Stock Blue Potions in bulk for the Energy Bolt era (Lv 10โ30) โ your only expensive window.
- Scrolling is safe here: CLASSIC WORLD ฮ only Chaos Scrolls can destroy items. Still โ don't over-scroll gear you'll replace by 35; it's a wipe.
Quests worth your time
| Quest | Level | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| [Event] A Strange and Familiar Wood | 10 | PERMANENT Label Ring at launch |
| [Event] Beyond the Unknown | 15 | PERMANENT Chat Ring at launch |
| ~15 | Early EXP while you're nearby | |
| ~26 | ||
| 30 | ||
| Subani's Alchemy โ starts in the Kerning City swamp maps | 36 | Chance at a Glove-for-Attack scroll โ pure meso, sell it |
| var. | Modest EXP, but you live in Ellinia anyway | |
| NEW Forgotten Hollow questlines | 39+ | Beta-exclusive content โ worth testing regardless of EXP |
Money in a wipe economy
Only earn what speeds you up: pots for the Energy Bolt era (10โ30 is your only expensive window โ buy blue pots in bulk), wand upgrades, and KPQ reward scrolls. Once Heal + MP Eater are up you're potless. Skip merching entirely โ the knowledge transfers, the wealth doesn't.
Ten classic mistakes to skip
- Putting anything into STR/DEX
- Building Magic Claw before ~28 on classic instinct โ Energy Bolt is the meso-efficient 1st-job attack (Claw's 2 lines only pull ahead near the job change, and you respec anyway)
- Maxing Magic Guard โ rank ~3 is enough here, and running it 24/7 burns expensive MP pots (toggle it off outside bosses)
- Skipping Improved MP Recovery's first point โ 1 SP for percent-based regen is the best value in the job
- Going LUKless โ testers confirm it's strictly worse damage than 4 INT / 1 LUK here
- Maxing Heal to farm undead โ the classic heal-grind is nerfed out of the game; Heal is a 1-point sustain tool
- Sleeping on Holy Arrow โ it's your real attack skill and the top mage DPS of beta 1; max it first at 2nd job
- Solo-grinding maps a full party could clear โ party bonus EXP is far above the original game's, and clerics stack a hidden bonus on top
- Over-scrolling gear you'll replace โ in a beta, doubly so
- Skipping KPQ / party play โ it's the best EXP and the fun part
Loadout: Consumables & Keybinds
Consumables by bracket
Prices/availability are classic-data guides โ verify in shops. Rule of thumb: as a mage your HP bar barely matters (Magic Guard early, Heal-1 later) โ MP is your real fuel cost, so buy MP pots in stacks of 100.
| Level | HP | MP | Utility | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10โ20 | Cheapest era. Rest on ropes/ladders โ MP Recovery ticks while you stand still. | |||
| 21โ30 (KPQ) | Stock up BEFORE entering the PQ lobby โ tracks move fast and shopping mid-rotation loses your spot. Magic Guard ON only for the King Slime stage, OFF after (it drinks your blue pots). | |||
| 30โ45 | Heal-1 is now your HP pot for anything that isn't burst damage. Sell junk drops for elixir money. | |||
| 45+ / Ossyria | El Nath mobs hit harder โ keep real HP pots again for Coolie bursts. |
Keybinds โ pick your level, see your loadout
Laid out like the in-game keyconfig. Drag the slider: keys light up as skills unlock along this guide's build (Energy Bolt era โ Holy Arrow cleric). Dimmed keys = nothing there yet at that level.
Controller โ same loadout, gamepad edition
COT #2 adds controller support with customizable layouts. Proposed mapping (Xbox labels), driven by the same slider:
Day-by-Day Schedule
Assumes a few hours per day; compress or stretch to taste. Level targets are the casual-to-solid band.
Day 1 โ Secure the permanents
Servers open an estimated 11:00 AM PDT / 8:00 PM CEST (test #1 started 6 PM UTC โ unconfirmed for this test). Install/patch via Nexon Launcher early โ expect launch-day jank. Create your Magician (all INT, +1 LUK/level). Quest through Maple Island, hit Lv 10 + [Event] A Strange and Familiar Wood, push to Lv 15 + [Event] Beyond the Unknown. The rings are the only thing you keep โ nothing else matters today. Target: Lv 15.
Day 2 โ Bolt online
MP Recovery maxed, Energy Bolt climbing toward its rank 12/16 damage spikes. Pig Beach โ Subway Line 1 Bubblings โ Stirges. Buy blue pots in bulk. Target: Lv 19โ21.
Day 3 โ KPQ era begins
Live in Kerning PQ; learn the track system, add good party members to your buddy list โ they're your grind partners later. Ant Tunnel between lobbies. Target: Lv 24โ26.
Day 4 โ Push for the robe and the job
KPQ + Ant Tunnel to 30. Job advance: Cleric. Do Mr. Wetbottom's for the Sauna Robe and grab the Icarus Cape. Heal 1 for sustain, then start pumping Holy Arrow. Target: Lv 29โ31.
Day 5 โ Zombie farmer (long session day)
Weekend push. Zombie Mushrooms with Energy Bolt, switching to Holy Arrow as it ranks up. Move to Jr. Wraiths when they start dying in 1โ2 Holy Arrows โ grab a full party there for the stacked party bonus. Target: Lv 34โ37.
Day 6 โ Forgotten Hollow
Enter the beta-exclusive zone at 39 (or keep Jr. Wraithing until you can). Run its questlines โ this is the content Nexon most wants feedback on. Subani's Alchemy at 36 for meso. Target: Lv 38โ41.
Day 7 โ Wraith ceiling
Subway Line 2 Area 2 Wraiths โ the best measured EXP in the game. Teleport ranked up, Heal-1 covering your HP bar. Target: Lv 42โ45.
Day 8 โ Ossyria field trip
Take the boat to Orbis, drop to El Nath, and visit the Dead Mine โ Coolie Zombies are the classic cleric endgame and they're new this test. Even under-leveled, go see it and party up. Target: Lv 45+.
Day 9 โ Last call
Final grind, bucket-list anything you skipped (crafting professions, King Slime, a boss run), screenshot your character, and file your feedback on the official forums โ test #1 showed they patch fast based on it. Estimated shutdown ~11:00 AM PDT / 8:00 PM CEST โ don't leave the bucket list for the evening if you're in Europe. The rings stay.
